UWCL : Minsk's Nigerian International Striker Scores Against Barcelona
Published: October 30, 2019
Nigeria international Emueje Ogbiagbevha was on target in the UEFA Women's Champions League on Wednesday afternoon but could not prevent Minsk from losing 3-1 to Barcelona.
The Belarusian side had a mountain to climb after suffering a 5-0 loss at the Estadi Johan Cruyff thirteen days ago.
Playing as Minsk's lone striker, Ogbiagbevha opened the scoring as she outpaced two Barcelona defenders before slotting past goalkeeper Tajonar at minute 60.
Minsk's hopes of a comeback evaporated when Alexia restored parity in the 66th minute before goals from Mariona and Patri Guijarro in the closing minutes sealed the win.
While Ogbiagbevha lasted the entire duration of the game, Barcelona's Asisat Oshoala was a non-playing substitute.
The 29-year-old Minsk number nine was a member of the Super Falcons squad that finished fourth at the 2012 African Women's Championship.
Barcelona have now qualified for the quarterfinal of the UEFA Women's Champions League for the fifth year in a row.
