Debate Over International Future Of Tomori May End This Month; Chelsea Star Called Up By England
Published: November 07, 2019
The debate over the international future of Chelsea star Fikayo Tomori may end this month after he was named by manager Gareth Southgate in the latest England squad list announced on Thursday afternoon.
The Calgary-born central defender is eligible to play for the national teams of Nigeria, England and Canada but it is England who are nailed on favorites to cap-tie him after he was named in the matchday squad for the two European Championship qualifiers against Czech Republic and Bulgaria last month.
There is another opportunity for Tomori to become an England international for life and that will come when England face Montenegro at Wembley on Thursday November 14.
If he does not feature against Montenegro, England could cement his allegiance in their final European Championship qualifier against Kosovo in Pristina on Sunday November 17 and the game is looking like a dead rubber with the Three Lions needing only one point from their last two fixtures to qualify for the EURO.
Tomori's story is similar to that of Tammy Abraham who was courted by the Nigeria Football Federation before he made his competitive debut for England against Czech Republic in October.
The 21-year-old center back has 35 development squad caps for England and has captained Canada's U20 national team in the past.
