Exclusive : Chelsea Offer Talented Nigerian Defender New Deal Ahead Of Next Season
Published: November 20, 2019Allnigeriasoccer.com can exclusively report that exciting defender Derrick Abu is the latest Nigerian teenager to be offered a scholarship deal by Premier League side Chelsea, after goalkeeper Prince Adegoke.
The 2003-born fullback will be among the new intake of Chelsea Academy scholars for the 2020-2021 season if the offer is accepted.
Having said that, Abu and his minders are delighted that the player has been offered fresh terms by Chelsea and he's looking forward to the big clash against Arsenal on Saturday, November 23.
Although the right-back is yet to celebrate his 16th birthday, he has been training with Chelsea's U18 team ahead of a potential debut in the U18 Premier League.
Abu was called up to the U18 squad for the Premier League Cup game against Wolverhampton Wanderers on October 30 but was a non-playing substitute.
The 15-year-old was acquired by Chelsea at U11 level following a successful trial and was heavily courted by Norwich City before he agreed terms with the London club.
He is open to representing the Nigeria youth teams if approached by the Nigeria Football Federation.
