Nigerian Defender Scores Dramatic Late Winner For Juventus Against Atletico Madrid In UYL
Published: November 26, 2019
Paolo Gozzi Iweru made the headlines in Vinovo on Tuesday afternoon after helping Juventus to a 2-1 comeback win over Atletico Madrid in their UEFA Youth League encounter at the Juventus Training Center.
The 18-year-old centre back scored a 94th minute winner for his team to completely turn the game on its head following Atletico's opening goal from Alberto Salido.
Pablo Moreno gave Juve a lifeline in the 78th minute shortly before Iweru's goal when he pounced on a pass from Elia Petrelli to beat goalkeeper José Saldaña
The goal was the second of the season in the tournament for the Nigeria-eligible starlet, having earlier found the net in a 2-1 loss to Lokomotiv Moscow in their third group game last month.
Thus, the result put the young Bianconeri side to the second round of the competition with a game to spare.
Iweru has grown in leaps and bounds with the Turin outfit this season and has already earned his senior debut for the club in the domestic topflight.
