Osimhen Continues Fine Lille Scoring Feat; Bordeaux's Maja Nets Back-heel Goal
Published: November 30, 2019
Super Eagles top striker Victor Osimhen on Saturday night scored his eighth Ligue 1 goal of the season in Lille's 1-0 win at home over visiting Dijon.
Osimhen who has been named by the Confederation of African Football as one of the nominees for the 2019 African Footballer of the Year scored a 45th minute penalty which was enough to guarantee all three points at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy.
The Nigerian has scored two more in the UEFA Champions League group stage albeit his team crashed out after the defeat to Ajax in midweek when he was also on target.
Another Nigerian, Josh Maja made little history for Bordeaux on Saturday at the Stade Auguste -Delaune as they were held to a 1-1 draw by home side Reims in a match day 15 league match.
Maja capped a decent performance with Bordeaux's only goal in the 27th minute with a delightful back heeled effort.
Reims grabbed their equaliser in the 94th minute through Boulaye Dia who was at the end of a Suk Hueng-Jun pinpoint cross.
The strike meant Maja became the club's eighth goal scorer in their away matches this season.
Coming into the match, Bordeaux had won three league games, drawn one and lost two matches.
It was Maja's third goal of the 2019/2020 season in all competitions after scoring in the league game against Montpellier on 17 August and the French League Cup on 29 October 2019.
Maja who has one cap for the Nigerian national team, a 2-2 draw versus Ukraine in an international friendly back in September, was in action for 90 minutes in his 13th league game of the campaign.
Maja's international teammate Samuel Kalu played for 62 minutes and was replaced by Youssef Sabaly in also his 13th league game of the season, and 14th in all competitions.
