PL 2 : Derby County's Nigeria-Eligible Winger Scores Against Chelsea In Six-Goal Thriller
Published: December 08, 2019
Derby County's Nigeria-eligible winger Josh Shonibare was among the scorers as The Rams were held to a 3-3 draw by Premier League 2 leaders Chelsea at the EBB Stadium in Aldershot on Saturday afternoon.
Derby took the lead on two occasions but the home team fought back to level matters and earned a precious point.
Making his sixth start of the season, Shonibare opened the scoring just before the 20-minute mark, firing into the bottom corner after receiving a throw-in.
Chelsea's Jonathan Russell restored parity before goals from Louie Sibley and Jahmal Hector-Ingram saw Derby County establish a two-goal cushion, but the points were shared after Clinton Mola and Charlie Brown scored in the 60th and 78th minutes respectively.
Shonibare made way for another player of Nigerian descent, Festy Ebosele, a Republic of Ireland U19 international, with eight minutes left on the clock.
The uncapped 21-year-old winger's other goal in the Premier League 2 this season came against Everton on October 18.
As a result of the draw with Chelsea, Derby are third in the table with 22 points, one point behind Chelsea and Arsenal who lead the way.
