'I Had Seen That Goal From Suarez' - Club Brugge's Dennis On Brilliant Finish Inspired By Barca Star
Published: December 16, 2019
Emmanuel Dennis scored a goal of the season contender as Club Brugge registered a 3-0 victory against Mechelen on Sunday evening.
On the half-hour mark, the Nigeria international broke the offside trip and slotted past goalkeeper Thoelen with a back-heel and the goal was reminiscent of Luis Suarez's brilliant finish for Barcelona in a 5-2 win over Mallorca on December 7.
Dennis revealed that he dreamt about scoring a carbon copy of Suarez's goal and was delighted that he was able to achieve the feat after about one week.
Speaking to Club Brugge's official website post-match, Dennis said : 'I had seen that super goal from Suarez with Barcelona last weekend. And I thought to myself : I should try that too.
''If that also succeeds, then you are naturally very happy . I really didn't know if I was offside or not, but when the ref pointed to the center circle after the VAR intervened, I was naturally overjoyed.
''The coach congratulated me on my goal afterwards and that is also a good sign.''
The 22-year-old Dennis took his tally for the season to 7 goals in 23 games across all competitions following his brilliant strike vs Mechelen.
