Olayinka Continues To Push For Arsenal First Team Debut After Another Goal In Cup Competition
Published: December 18, 2019
First team prospect James Olayinka was among the scorers as Arsenal registered a 3-2 victory against GNK Dinamo Zagreb in a Premier League International Cup match held at Meadow Park in Hertfordshire on Tuesday night, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
Manager Steve Bould named the uncapped Anglo-Nigerian midfielder, Ibadan-born central defender Joseph Olowu and left-back Tolaji Bola in his starting line-up.
Marin scored with a sublime free-kick from the edge of the area to give the visitors the lead in the 7th minute before John-Jules restored parity for the Gunners at minute 35.
Ten minutes into the second half, Olayinka fired into the bottom corner to put Arsenal 2-1 up but Baturina drew his team level with a close range effort in the 79th minute.
It was the 19-year-old's second goal in cup competitions this term, having scored against Northampton Town in the EFL Trophy back in August.
As Arsenal searched for a winner, Balogun was brought on in the 81st minute and he almost put the Gunners in front again but a penalty he won was saved by goalkeeper Dinko Horkas two minutes to the end.
In stoppage time, John-Jules scored his second of the night to secure three points for the home team, slotting home after a brilliant pass from Balogun.
Arsenal's next game in the Premier League International Cup comes up against Leicester City on January 17, 2020.
