Dutch Giants Failed In Bid To Sign Bayern Munich Teenage Sensation Of Nigerian Origin
Published: December 25, 2019
It has come to light that Dutch champions Ajax Amsterdam failed in their bid to sign Bayern Munich teenage sensation of Nigerian descent, Joshua Zirkzee in the summer because The Bavarians considered him a key member of the youth team.
German newspaper Bild has reported that Bayern Munich fielded several inquiries over the availability of the striker in the summer transfer window, and Ajax Amsterdam were among his suitors.
Bayern Munich Academy manager Jochen Sauer explained : "We did not deal with inquiries about Joshua Zirkzee in the summer because he was too important for our team in the 3. Liga".
Prior to his promotion to Bayern's first team, Zirkzee appeared in 14 matches in the 3. Liga, producing two assists in those games.
In two appearances in the Bundesliga, the 18-year-old has scored twice with his first contact with the ball after coming off the bench.
In September 2019, Zirkzee extended his contract, keeping him at Bayern Munich until the end of the 2022-2023 season.
