Newcastle Vs Leicester : Ex-Chelsea Star Reckons Super Eagles Striker Cannot Step Into The Shoes Of Vardy
Published: January 01, 2020
All eyes are on Kelechi Iheanacho in the ongoing Premier League game between Newcastle United and Leicester City at St James' Park, with the Nigeria international leading the line for the second consecutive game in the absence of Jamie Vardy.
The Premier League top scorer with 17 goals was not in action against West Ham following the birth of his daughter and picked up a calf injury upon his return to the club.
Former Chelsea midfielder Andy Townsend believes Brendan Rodgers' side will struggle without their talismanic striker despite Iheanacho showing good form in recent matches.
In his pre-match analysis of the encounter, BT Sport pundit Townsend said : "It's good news for them of late, he (Iheanacho) scored a couple of very important goals for his team recently.
"They are never quite the same, Leicester, when Vardy doesn't play. There is a significant chunk missing when he's not there. That's not an easy game.
"That's a different Newcastle now from when Steve Bruce first went there. It's a tough game for Leicester City."
