Four Nigerians On Parade For Arsenal U18s With Chelsea Heroes Cech, Ashley Cole, Makelele Watching
Published: January 05, 2020
Four Nigeria-eligible players were in action for Arsenal as they played out an entertaining 2-2 draw with Chelsea in the U18 Premier League on Saturday afternoon.
While Mazeed Ogungbo, Ryan Alebiosu and Nathan Butler-Oyedeji were in action for the entire duration of the game staged at Cobham Training Center, Daniel Oyegoke played for 51 minutes before he was replaced in the second half.
According to The Sun UK, two former players associated with both Chelsea and Arsenal in the shape of Ashley Cole and Petr Cech watched the game between the London rivals, and they were joined by Blues legend Claude Makelele.
Goalkeepers Prince Adegoke and Kelechi Chibueze as well as fullbacks Jordan Aina and Derrick Abu were all omitted from Chelsea's matchday squad vs Arsenal.
The Young Gunners did well to recover from a two-goal deficit against the top team in the division.
Chelsea were 2-0 up thanks to goals from Marcel Lewis and Joe Haigh, but the visitors earned a share of the spoils after scoring through Sam Greenwood and Matthew Dennis in the final ten minutes.
Ogungbo, Butler-Oyedeji and Oyegoke are first year scholars at Arsenal while Alebiosu inked scholarship forms before the start of the 2018-2019 season.
