Hoogewerf Finishes As Manchester United Joint-top Scorer In Mercedes-Benz Junior Cup 2020

Netherlands U17 international of Nigerian descent Dillon Hoogewerf was the joint-top scorer for Manchester United at the recently concluded Mercedes-Benz JuniorCup 2020, an honour he shared with Mark Helm.
The Red Devils took a 12-man group for the tournament in Germany, with two other players of Nigerian descent, Shola Shoretire and Ayodeji Sotona, part of the traveling party.
United ended the group stage with two wins, beating Porto and Borussia Moenchengladbach 2-1 and 1-0 respectively before losing 1-0 to VfB Stuttgart.
On day two, the English side drew 2-2 with Rapid Vienna and lost 4-0 to RB Leipzig, thus missing out on a semifinal spot.
In the classification game, Manchester United beat Eintracht Frankfurt on penalties following a 2-2 stalemate in regulation time, with Hoogewerf netting both goals for the Old Trafford outfit.
The diminutive striker, who was signed from Ajax Amsterdam last summer, opened his goalscoring account in the tournament against Rapid Vienna.
The Mercedes-Benz JuniorCup 2020 was won by Rapid Vienna who thrashed RB Leipzig 4-0 in the final.
