Exclusive: New Manchester United Striker Ighalo Most Likely Shirt Number Revealed
Published: February 03, 2020Allnigeriasoccer.com can exclusively report that former Nigeria international Odion Ighalo has been allocated a shirt number by his new employer Manchester United.
For the remainder of the 2019-2020 season, the Shanghai Greenland Shenhua loanee is most likely to play with the number 25 kit, a shirt number very popular in Nigeria thanks to the heroics of Super Eagles legend Nwankwo Kanu at Arsenal.
In Ighalo's first season in Europe, he wore the number 20 kit at Lyn Oslo and used the number 9 and 89 during his time with Udinese in Italy, and was allocated the number 24 at Watford.
The 30-year-old played with the numbers 7, 16 and 25 during his loan spells with Granada in Spain and has been wearing the number nine jersey for his clubs since moving to China in January 2017.
Manchester United's number 25 jersey has been worn by Antonio Valencia, Nick Powell, Danny Simpson, David Jones, Quinton Fortune and Jordi Cruyff in the past.
Ighalo is in line to became the first Nigerian player to represent Manchester United in the English Premier League when they face Chelsea on February 17.
