Mikel Arteta On Saka And Whether Arsenal Are Trying To Sign Him To A New Contract
Published: February 14, 2020
Arsenal coach Mikel Arteta faced the cameras at Friday's pre-match press conference ahead of the upcoming match against Newcastle United and one of the questions he was asked was whether the Gunners are trying to sign Bukayo Saka to a new contract.
With Saka's current agreement set to run out in the next seventeen months, Premier League rivals Manchester United and Liverpool are reportedly showing interest in the Hale End Academy product.
Arteta revealed that Arsenal are always keen to tie down promising players to new deals but it has to follow a process.
"I am really happy with how they [young players] are developing. Part of that developing is to improve the contract and to tie them to the club,'' Arteta was quoted as saying by arsenal.com.
"But that has to follow a natural process. We have Edu, we have Raul, Vinai and Huss who are in charge of that and I am sure we will do the right thing when players deserve to improve and extend their contracts."
Since making his debut for Arsenal's first team, Saka has played 27 matches, including 16 in the Premier League.
