Chelsea & Nigeria Hero Mikel Sees Red In First Game Back From Suspension
Published: March 01, 2020
Chelsea legend Obi Mikel will not be available for selection when Trabzonspor take on Fenerbahce in the Turkish Cup semifinals, first leg on March 3, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
The two-time World Cupper took the walk of shame in the fifth minute of second half stoppage time as Trabzonspor thrashed Aminu Umar's Rizespor 5-2 in a league game on Saturday.
Mikel was first cautioned by referee Abdulkadir Bitigen in the 78th minute and was yellow carded again when he gave away a penalty in stoppage time as a shot taken by Ogulcan hit his hand.
The former Super Eagles captain played his first match against Rizespor after serving a one-match suspension for accumulated bookings that saw him sit out the league game at Besiktas.
The 32-year-old defensive midfielder has picked up nine yellow cards in all competitions this season, with three shown to him in the qualifying rounds of the Europa League.
Mikel could return to Trabzonpor's starting line-up for their league game with Gaziantep FK next weekend.
