Super Eagles Striker Criticised By Bordeaux Coach Despite Goal Vs Saint-Etienne
Published: March 09, 2020Josh Maja has been criticised by Bordeaux coach Paulo Sousa despite the young striker getting on the scoresheet in yesterday's 1-1 draw against Saint-Etienne.
Sousa has pointed out two weaknesses in Maja's game and expects more from the Nigeria international.
The 21-year-old made his first start in the Ligue 1 since December 15 against Saint-Etienne, having made four appearances off the bench in the previous nine matches contested by Bordeaux.
Quizzed on the performance of Maja, Sousa told Sud Ouest : "I have already said, he is a player who has tactical and physical difficulties when the team does not have the ball but also in the possession phase.
"We need to have a center forward that gives depth, which opens up spaces. He's a goal scorer, it's an important quality, but for our workforce right now, it's not enough".
Maja has scored 6 goals in 21 appearances in the French top-flight and has two goals to his name in Cup matches.
