17-Year-Old Midfielder Azeez Trains With Arsenal First Team As Man City Match Is Postponed
Published: March 11, 2020
Highly-rated Spanish-Nigerian midfielder born in England, Miguel Azeez was invited to train with Arsenal's first team on Tuesday, March 10.
Arsenal youth-team guru Jeorge Bird has informed that Azeez was among five Academy stars spotted training with Arsenal's first team at London Colney yesterday, the others being Matthews, Taylor-Hart, Cirjan and Zech Medley.
Aged seventeen, the Hale End Academy product is being fast-tracked to the U23 team ahead of the 2020-2021 campaign, having started against Monaco (Premier League International Cup) and Manchester City (Premier League 2) last month, and was on the bench against Chelsea U23s.
Azeez inked his first professional contract with the Emirates Stadium outfit in September 2019, less than three months after he became a first-year scholar.
Meanwhile, any hope he has of making his professional debut against Manchester City on Wednesday has ended, with the Premier League confirming that Arsenal's match against the reigning champions has been rescheduled as a precautionary measure.
Olympiakos owner Evangelos Marinakis, who visited the Emirates Stadium last month, has recently contracted Covid-19 and some Arsenal players met with him after the Europa League game thirteen days ago.
Arsenal said in a statement published on their official website, arsenal.com that the players have been placed in quarantine at their homes for 14 days, as well as four staff sitting close to Marinakis during the game.
