Paul Ince Admits Ighalo Has Done Well But Advises Man Utd To Sign 20-Goal-A-Season Striker
Published: March 20, 2020
Manchester United legend Paul Ince has acknowledged that Odion
Ighalo has impressed since his arrival at Old Trafford but wants the
club to sign a striker who can guarantee them at least 20 goals a
season.
The former Nigeria international
has been prolific since debuting for United, needing only 318 minutes to
score four goals, but Ince has argued that age is not on his side.
The
Red Devils did not sign a replacement for Romelu Lukaku after he was
allowed to join Inter Milan last summer and with Marcus Rashford
suffering an injury, it left them light in attack.
Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer scrambled to get the Ighalo deal over the line on deadline day in the January transfer window.
"Martial, for me on his day, is brilliant but he doesn’t have enough of those days. Ighalo is the wrong end of 30," Ince told Goal.com.
"He has done well but you won’t pin your hat on him for the next four years.
"If you look at all the top teams, all the best teams have the best strikers. Their strikers have 20-25 goals in a bad season.
"Manchester United lost that in [Romelu] Lukaku. That’s got to be their main aim."
Manchester
United heavily courted Erling Haaland only for the Norway teenage
sensation to snub the chance to join the Premier League giants in favour
of a move to Borussia Dortmund in January.
