Manchester United Linked With Move For Odion Ighalo's Protege
Published: March 22, 2020Manchester United are being linked with a move for Nigeria international Victor Osimhen, according to reports in the French press.
Le 10 Sport has claimed that Osimhen is on the shortlist of players the Red Devils want to sign in the summer transfer window but face competition from several European giants, with the likes of Real Madrid and Barcelona among his suitors.
It is known that at least one Manchester United scout was in attendance at the Groupama Stadium (Décines-Charpieu) on January 21 to watch Lille take on Lyon in the Coupe de la Ligue, a game in which Osimhen went the distance.
Osimhen is a protégé of Manchester United winter signing Odion Ighalo and was at the Jan-Breydel-Stadion a month ago to watch the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations top scorer make his debut in European competitions against Club Brugge.
The 2015 U17 World Cup winner was an understudy to Ighalo during the tournament in Egypt and got his first taste of action at the AFCON when he came off the bench to replace the then Super Eagles number nine.
Lille higher-ups have repeatedly stated that Osimhen is not for sale in the summer but every player has a price and a bid in excess of eighty million euros may be too good to turn down.
The 21-year-old, who has tallied 18 goals in all tournaments this season, is under contract with Lille until June 30, 2024.
