Red Bull Salzburg Teen Sensation Explains Why He Rejected Move To Chelsea
Published: April 02, 2020
Triple-eligible striker Karim Adeyemi has explained why he turned down a move to Premier League side Chelsea before he was acquired by Red Bull Salzburg.
The Germany youth international was on the books of Bayern Munich from 2010-2012 before joining SpVgg Unterhaching, from where he transferred to Red Bull Salzburg in the summer of 2018 for a fee of three million euros.
Chelsea invited Adeyemi and his family to their Cobham Training Center while the likes of Liverpool and
Atletico Madrid had been keeping tabs on the player with a view to a transfer.

"I decided to continue playing at Unterhaching because I felt very comfortable. A move to Chelsea would not have been a sensible step at the time," said Adeyemi to Goal.com.
"Of course I am happy when such clubs signal interest, but I just wanted to play football. My team-mates were always behind me.
"Of course it is a bit uncomfortable when the other players ask: 'Is it true that club X is interested?'
"I was often asked about it at school. I didn't really want to talk about that."
Born to a Nigerian father and Romanian mother, Adeyemi inked a contract extension with Red Bull Salzburg in January 2020, tying him to the Austrian champions until June 2024.
