'I'm Sure They Won't Miss Him' - Nigeria To Battle England For Chelsea Whizkid Anjorin, NFF Chief Hints
Published: April 09, 2020
The Nigeria Football Federation are keeping tabs on Faustino Anjorin and are hoping to convince the Chelsea whizkid to pledge his international future to the three-time African champions over England, NFF Vice President Shehu Dikko has hinted.
Born in Poole, England, the versatile midfielder is qualified to represent Nigeria through his father but became provisionally cap-tied to his country of birth when he featured for the Young Lions at the 2018 U17 EURO.
Though Arsenal winger Bukayo Saka, Liverpool loanee Ovie Ejaria and Queens Park Rangers midfielder Eberechi Eze are the dual-eligible London born talents being mentioned in Nigerian Federation's recruiting circles, Anjorin is as talented as the trio and worth keeping an eye on.
The 18-year-old has been tipped to break into the Chelsea first team in the not too distant future, having made his debut for the Blues in the League Cup and Premier League this campaign.
Asked if there's a possibility of convincing Anjorin to play for the Super Eagles, Shehu Dikko told allnigeriasoccer.com : "Yes I think Rohr's scouting team are monitoring (Anjorin) but I have no idea what they are doing but I am sure they won't miss him.
"The objective of the coach is to have a wide pool of players available for selection both abroad and in the domestic scene.
"So I believe they must have him on their radar but all subject to if he is interested to pledge his allegiance to Nigeria since it’s a long process and not a guarantee he must be selected until he deserves it".
Anjorin has shown his quality for Chelsea's youth teams this season, he's the top scorer for the U23 side in the Premier League 2 with five goals and captains the U18s in the prestigious FA Youth Cup.
