Published: May 07, 2020
Allnigeriasoccer.com can exclusively report that English Premier League club Southampton have offered a new contract to promising Nigerian defender Oludare Olufunwa.
The 18-year-old inked his first professional contract with The Saints in 2019 and the agreement between club and player runs out on June 30, 2020.
Olufunwa is studying the fresh offer before deciding whether or not to extend his stay at the St. Mary's Stadium outfit.
He is one of the highly-rated youngsters at the Southampton Academy and trained with the first team prior to the start of the 2019-2020 season, featuring in a friendly against Chinese Super League side Guangzhou R&F.
This season, the defender represented Southampton in the Premier League 2 and Premier League International Cup, and netted a game-winning goal against Wolverhampton Wanderers back in February.
Olufunwa joined Southampton in 2010 following a successful trial after he was spotted playing for a local club.
He is open to playing for Nigeria youth teams if approached by the Nigeria Football Federation.
