Bundesliga Wrap : Bazee Makes Full Augsburg Debut; Awoniyi's Goal Disallowed; Torunarigha Impresses; Akpoguma Subbed In
Published: May 30, 2020
Allnigeriasoccer.com's round-up of Nigerian players that were in action for their respective clubs in the German Bundesliga on Saturday, May 30.
Nigerian
players with dual nationalities and have played competitively for the
senior national teams of other countries have been omitted.
At the Olympiastadion in Berlin, Jordan Torunarigha was impressive yet again at the heart of the Hertha BSC defence as they registered a 2-0 win against an Augsburg side containing two German-born Nigerian youngsters in Noah Bazee and Felix Uduokhai.
Former Super Eagles invitee Bazee was finally handed his full debut in all competitions, ten months after he joined Augsburg from Hannover 96, where he spent six years.
Javairo Dilrosun showed lovely skill to set himself up before firing home in the 23rd minute to give his side, before Krzysztof Piatek sealed the win in the third minute of second half stoppage time.
While central defenders Torunarigha and Uduokhai went the distance, Bazee was in action for 81 minutes before he was replaced.
Over to the OPEL Arena for the game between Mainz and Hoffenheim, it ended 1-0 in favour of the visitors.
Liverpool loanee Taiwo Awoniyi logged ninety minutes for the first time since his move to Mainz last summer.
Just past the hour mark, the 2013 U17 World Cup winner thought he had cancelled out Ihlas Bebou's 43rd minute opener but his goal was disallowed by referee Stegemann as Hoffenheim goalkeeper Baumann was apparently fouled in the build-up.
Having missed Hoffenheim's last two matches, former Germany U20 skipper Kevin Akpoguma was introduced at halftime for his 16th league appearance of the 2019-2020 season.
