Former Chelsea Fullback Eager To Play For Nigeria Over England
Former Chelsea defender Josh Debayo is targeting a call-up to the Super Eagles after committing his international future to Nigeria, though he is eligible to wear the colours of England, where he was raised.

The exciting fullback was invited to train with the Golden Eaglets before their trip to the United Arab Emirates for the 2013 U17 World Cup but was omitted from the final roster.

Asked if he was still interested in playing for Nigeria, Debayo said on Instagram Live : "Yes. When I was sixteen I went to a Nigeria U17 training camp. It was nice to go there, real humbling experience to see other players.

"It has been on my mind for a long time. If I get a call-up, I will definitely go".

The Cheltenham Town left-back has picked the 4-1 win against Scunthorpe United in August 2019 as the highlight of his season so far.

"This season we played against Scunthorpe, we were drawing 1-1 at half-time then I came on at half-time and I had a good influence on the game, we ended up wining 4-1.

"I had a good contribution to the game so it was a good highlight especially at the start of the season."

On his most difficult opponent, Debayo stated : "The hardest opponent I played against, there is a Brentford winger from last season, Saïd Benrahma, maybe Algerian.

"He's very skillful, technical, quick, that was tough. Sometimes he is just too sharp."

Apart from Chelsea, the 23-year-old Debayo previously represented the youth teams of Fulham, Southampton and Leicester City before joining Cheltenham Town in 2018.
