Former Man United GK Bosnich: Why Ighalo Loan Move Was 'Absolutely Perfect'
Published: June 08, 2020
Odion Ighalo has been a success since his January arrival at Manchester United on an initial five-month loan deal from Chinese Super League side Shanghai Shenhua and deserved another shot at his boyhood club according to former Man United and Australia goalkeeper Mark Bosnich.
Ighalo's first loan at Old Trafford ended on May 31 but has had his contract with the club extended to 31 January 2021.
Bosnich while speaking on Sky Sports News on Monday expressed his excitement at the decision of the United bosses to have the top scorer at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations with five goals remain at the club.
"When he first arrived obviously there were a great deal of people who heard about him especially in the UK and he's someone that when he first arrived at that period of time, I thought was absolutely perfect.
"There weren't a whole lot of options obviously with Marcus Rashford's injury and a back up needed, and not replacing Romelu Lukaku, United was found out. It was important to have that kind of player.
"His (Ighalo) performance at Man United has been really good. He's earned the right to stay. It's a great deal for the boy and for the club too," Bosnich stated.
