Southampton Coach Running The Rule Over 20-Year-Old Nigerian Winger Ahead Of EPL Restart
Published: June 14, 2020
Young Nigerian winger Nathan Tella would fancy his chances of making his professional debut for English Premier League club Southampton before the end of the 2019-2020 season, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
The former Arsenal schoolboy has been promoted to first-team training by manager Ralph Hasenhüttl as the Saints stepped up their preparations for their upcoming game against Norwich City on Friday, June 19.
The Austrian football tactician ran the rule over Tella during Friday's scrimmage against Bristol City at St Mary's Stadium, a friendly which was split into three forty-five minutes period.
Tella was introduced off the bench in the second period and had the best chance to increase Southampton's lead.
Before the 20-year-old was replaced in the third period, he had another opportunity to score when he shot from outside the area but his effort hit the inside of the post.
Southampton defeated the Championship side 3-2, with Michael Obafemi and Stuart Armstrong (2) getting on the scoresheet for the Premier League team.
Signed from Arsenal in the summer of 2017, Tella has recorded 34 appearances in the Premier League 2 since making his debut, scoring seven goals.
