Exclusive : Former Marseille, QPR Left-Back Taiwo Joins Cypriot Club Doxa Katokopias
Published: June 19, 2020
Allnigeriasoccer.com can exclusively report that Cypriot First Division club Doxa Katokopias are on the brink of announcing the capture of one of the best left-backs in the history of Nigerian football, Taye Taiwo.
The former Marseille and Queens Park Rangers defender signed a one-year contract with Doxa Katokopias on Friday night, having agreed personal terms.
The out-of-favour Nigeria international is presently in Italy and will fly to Cyprus next week for his official presentation.
Taiwo had been on the lookout for a new club since his departure from Finnish Veikkausliiga side Rovaniemen Palloseura at the end of the 2019 season.
Apart from the aforementioned teams, the free-kick expert previously wore the jerseys of AC Milan, Dynamo Kiev, Bursaspor, HJK Helsinki, Lausanne-Sport and Athletic Eskilstuna.
The 35-year-old represented the Super Eagles at three Africa Cup of Nations - 2006, 2008 and 2010 - and the World Cup in South Africa ten years ago.
The deal taking Taiwo to Doxa Katokopias was brokered by Cypriot agent Tekin Birinci.
