The Manchester United Record Ighalo Equaled After Goal Vs Norwich City
Published: June 28, 2020
When Odion Ighalo found the net five minutes into the second half in Saturday's 2-1 win against Norwich City in the FA Cup, the former Nigeria international equaled a Manchester United record, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
A cross from Luke Shaw was cleared by the Norwich City defence towards the goal and Ighalo, in acrobatic fashion, right-footed the ball into the net.
According to the statisticians at OPTA, Ighalo is only the second player in Manchester United's history to score in each of his first four competitive starts for the club, following James Hanson back in 1925.
Beginning from his full debut against Club Brugge, the 31-year-old has registered his name on the scoresheet in his other starts against Derby County, LASK and Norwich.
The 2019 Africa Cup of Nations top scorer has become a key player for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's team and has been involved in their last 11 games in all competitions, netting five goals in total.
The only snag is that he has yet to open his goalscoring account in the English top-flight for the Red Devils after six matches playing as a substitute.
