Arteta Warns Arsenal's Saka On Media Spotlight Pre-Tottenham Hotspur
Published: July 12, 2020
Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta has sounded a note of warning to Anglo Nigerian youngster Bukayo Saka on how he reacts to the deserved praises coming his way after encouraging performances.
Saka only recently extended his contract at the north London club and scored his first league goal for the Gunners in the 2-0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers.
"First of all, enjoy the moment," Arteta told the media as quoted by the Guardian UK when asked about his candid advise to the left winger whose father is Nigerian from the South western part of the country but eyed by the English national team in the light of spotlight beamed on his promising career.
"Football has some really good moments and some difficult moments. You are doing so well, enjoy it. But then understand this changes in 24, 48 hours. You have to live [on] your toes all the time, ready to react and act," Arteta added according to the Guardian.
"Bukayo is like this. Every training session, he doesn't give you any sign there's something different.
"There are going to be moments when he was a little bit up and down. It's normal because it happens to every player, whether you are 18 or 38. He needs to understand that, take it naturally and we are here to support him, to try to make him better, and that's it – enjoy."
Saka has represented England at the youth level and will be watched closely by England manager Gareth Southgate in next Saturday's FA Cup semifinals against Manchester City at the Wembley stadium.
However the versatile Nigerian is expected to impress once again in Sunday's north London derby at 4.30 pm local time.
