Official : Etebo Retained By Stoke City; Flying Eagles Invitee Released
Published: July 13, 2020
Championship club Stoke City have submitted their retained and released list to the English Football League.
Among the players retained for the 2020-2021 season is Nigeria international Oghenekaro Etebo, who is spending the remainder of the protracted campaign at La Liga side Getafe.
The central midfielder found game time hard to come by in the first half of the season, making only eight starts from a possible 26 in the English second-tier prior to his loan move to Getafe.
The Madrid club hold an option to make Etebo's loan move permanent at the end of the season and they considered triggering the purchase clause of the former Warri Wolves star before the coronavirus pandemic.
The 24-year-old has missed Getafe's last three games in the Spanish top-flight, against Real Madrid, Osasuna and Villarreal, due to injury.
Meanwhile, Jos-born central defender Ashinme Kigbu has been declared surplus to requirements and has been released along with seven players under the age of 24.
The former Manchester City youth-teamer was named to the Flying Eagles provisional squad list for the 2019 FIFA U20 World Cup in Poland.
