Manchester United Ended Up Signing Ighalo On Loan After Defeat To Man City In League CupManchester United coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer decided to move into the transfer market so sign a new striker following their 3-1 loss to Manchester City in the semifinal first leg of the League Cup back in January, according to reports.

The Red Devils were toothless in attack against their city rivals and were three goals down, before Marcus Rashford pulled a goal back with 20 minutes remaining.

Solskjaer's top transfer target in January was Erling Haaland but the Norwegian teenage sensation ended up choosing Borussia Dortmund over the Premier League giants.

The Norwegian football tactician attempted to bring another of his compatriot to Old Trafford, Joshua King, but Bournemouth rejected United's advance, before they scrambled to get the Odion Ighalo deal over the line on the final day of the transfer window.

"Sancho I think would be a great addition," Andy Mitten told the Talk of the Devils podcast, according to Metro UK.

"Greenwood is fantastic but he isn’t as consistent as he’s likely to be when he’s 23 or 24.

"That Manchester City game in the League Cup in January that made up OGS’ mind where he thought ‘I need another striker in’ which led to Ighalo coming in."

Ighalo, 31, maintained his goalscoring form in Cup competitions after the season restarted, netting in a 2-1 win over Norwich City in the quarterfinals of the FA Cup last month.
