Three Nigerian Youngsters In Line To Debut For Manchester United In PL2 Division One Next Season
Published: August 07, 2020
Three Nigeria-eligible youngsters in Dillon Hoogewerf, Shola Shoretire and Ayodeji Sotona are in line to debut for Manchester United in the Premier League 2 Division One next season, should they remain at the Old Trafford outfit, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
The Red Devils have secured promotion to the highest level of youth football in England, the Premier League 2 Division One after the Premier League decided to finalise the table on a points-per-game basis.
With 5 matches remaining in the regular season before the academy season was curtailed, Manchester United occupied the second position in the Premier League 2 Division Two table with 43 points, three less than West Ham United who had played a game more.
Nigeria U23 invitee Tosin Kehinde and American-born right-back Matthew Olosunde were key members of the United side that got relegated from the Premier League 2 Division One at the end of the 2017-2018 season.
Hoogewerf has made his debut for Manchester United U23s in the PL2 Division Two and it is all but confirmed he will play his maiden game in the PL2 Division One in the upcoming season.
Sotona is in the frame to feature for the U23s in the league next term as he has already made his debut for that age group in the EFL Trophy, against League One side Tranmere Rovers last December.
As for Shoretire, the youngest of the trio at 16, he has yet to make his competitive debut for the U23s but often trains with the squad.
