'There Have Been Greats Here Like Maradona, Cavani, Higuain' - Osimhen On Napoli Move
Published: August 07, 2020
Napoli's record signing in history at 70 million euros, Victor Osimhen wants to help the Blues win trophies in his maiden season with the Italian club.
The Nigeria international is eligible to represent Napoli in the Europa League, Serie A and Coppa Italia in the upcoming season.
Osimhen did not justify his wonderkid tag in his first European club Wolfsburg, and was rejected by Belgian teams SV Zulte Waragem and Club Brugge after he was declared surplus to requirements at the German Bundesliga club.
He later joined Sporting Charleroi, where he rediscovered his goalscoring touch, and proved he's no one-season wonder by netting 18 goals in all competitions for Lille last term.
The Ultimate Strikers product is hoping to follow in the footsteps of Napoli greats such as Diego Maradona, Edinson Cavani and Gonzalo Higuaín who between them scored 310 goals for the club.
In an interview with German broadcaster Sport1, Osimhen said : "I hope that I will take this step further. It is a step that gives me the chance to become part of the history of Naples.
"There have been greats here like Maradona, Cavani, Higuain.
"We'll be in Europe next season. I want to help the club do well in this competition and in the league too."
Osimhen has been allocated Napoli's number 9 jersey previously worn by Argentina star Higuain.
