Stoke City Ahead Of West Brom In Race To Sign Chelsea Legend Obi Mikel
Published: August 15, 2020
Championship side Stoke City are in advanced talks to sign Chelsea legend John Obi Mikel, according to reports.
Stoke-on-Trent Live claims Mikel is expected to become Stoke City's fourth summer signing, having held talks with manager Michael O'Neill about a transfer.
The Potters, who have Oghenekaro Etebo in their ranks, are in the market for a defensive midfielder and Mikel is high on their wishlist.
One of the most decorated Nigerian players in history, the Lyn Oslo product is currently unemployed after severing his ties with Turkish Cup winners Trabzonspor in March 2020 over coronavirus fears.
Newly promoted Premier League side West Brom were reportedly exploring ways to sign Mikel but it appears the Baggies are lagging behind in the race for his signature.
The 33-year-old has 391 appearances combined for his former English clubs Chelsea and Middlesbrough, whom he captained in the final six games of the 2018-2019 season.
