Bazunu, Nmecha Missing As Man City Fall To Lyon in Champions League Last Eight
Published: August 15, 2020
Two Nigerian starlets in the shape of Felix Nmecha and Gavin Bazunu were missing from the matchday squad for Manchester City who fell to a 3-1 defeat in their Champions League quarterfinal clash with Lyon on Saturday evening, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
While the duo were included in the 27-man squad that landed in Portugal on Monday ahead of today's game, manager Pep Guardiola opted not to list any for this match, favouring Gabriel Jesus over Nmecha while Ederson Moraes started in goal over Bazunu.
Max Cornet put the Ligue 1 club ahead after 24 minutes when he took advantage of an Ederson gaffe to curl home but Kevin De Bruyne restored parity with a sumptuous effort of his own after the break.
Two late goals from Moussa Dembele however, proved enough to bundle the Citizens out of the competition.
Thus, Lyon will now meet Joshua Zirkzee and Jamal Musiala's Bayern Munich in the semifinal of this season's Champions League while Ademola Lookman's RB Leipzig take on Paris Saint Germain in the other fixture.
