New Arsenal Signing Akinola Sparks International Tug-Of-War Between Nigeria And England
Published: August 18, 2020Allnigeriasoccer.com understands that new Arsenal signing Tim Akinola has sparked an international tug-of-war between Nigeria and England over his services.
The former Huddersfield Town box-to-box midfielder is set to feature for the Gunners U23 team in the Premier League 2 in the upcoming season after inking a two-year deal.
Akinola qualifies to represent the Flying Eagles as he was born in Nigeria and he can also choose to play for England, where he was raised.
The Nigeria Football Federation have been sounded out about the possibility of inviting the highly-rated teenager to one of the youth teams, while Super Eagles chief scout based in Europe, Tunde Adelakun has opened a line of communication with the player's camp over a future call-up to the Nigeria squad.
Akinola is also on the radar of the English Football Association and with his celebrated move to Arsenal, an invitation to the Young Lions could be on the cards, especially if he impresses in the upcoming season.
It is understood that Arsenal would prefer him to represent England, rather than his country of birth Nigeria at international level.
