'I Get Compared To Kante' - Arsenal's Akinola Wants To Become The Best Central Midfielder
Published: September 08, 2020
Arsenal's new kid on the block, Tim Akinola has said that he wants to become the best central midfielder of his generation, ahead of a potential debut for the Gunners development squad in their EFL Trophy clash against League One side Ipswich Town at Portman Road on Tuesday evening.
The Nigerian-born starlet has revealed that he has been likened to world-class midfielders such as Chelsea's World Cup winner N'Golo Kante but has stressed that he wants to make a name for himself following his summer move to the Emirates Stadium.
On the midfielder he models his game after, Akinola told allnigeriasoccer.com : "I get compared to the likes of Kante and few others defensive midfielders but I don’t like comparing myself to other players.
"I do study so many types of midfielders to see their best bits and add it on to my game as I want to become the best centre midfielder."
Akinola is eligible to represent Arsenal in the 2020-2021 Premier League whether or not he's included in the 25-man squad as he is classed as an U21 player.
The 19-year-old is targeting making his Premier League debut, which would not have been possible if he had remained at Huddersfield Town.
"Truly my targets are to make my Premier League debut this season, coming and make a name for myself.
"I want to become the best midfielder in this generation, simple and clear," Akinola concluded.
Akinola is believed to be on the radar of Super Eagles chief scout in England, Tunde Adelakun with a view to a possible call-up to one of the national teams in the near future.
