'We Have Signed The Right Player' - Palace Boss Praises Eze Ahead Of Potential EPL Debut
Published: September 11, 2020Crystal Palace coach Roy Hodgson has lavished praise on Eberechi Eze ahead of his side's Premier League clash against Southampton at Selhurst Park (London) on Saturday afternoon, calling the former Queens Park Rangers playmaker a good signing.
The experienced football tactician believes Eze can star in the Premier League in the long run despite moving from the Championship.
"Eberechi Eze is a very good signing who will be with us for a number of years... Eberechi has the ability and personality. I have no fears about him stepping up," Hodgson was quoted as saying by the official website of Crystal Palace.
"We’re convinced we’ve signed the right player, the right player in terms of his ability and his character."
The 22-year-old Eze is
in contention to make his Premier League bow against the Saints despite
pulling out of the Young Lions squad due to injury, but the Eagles boss
noted that he's not in tiptop condition fitness-wise.
Since his signing was confirmed by Crystal Palace, the England U21 international of Nigerian descent, has logged only 45 minutes in a friendly vs Charlton Athletic and it's something that bothers Hodgson.
He added : "[Eze] trained with us. He is available for selection in theory. He had an injury and only played 45 minutes [v Charlton Athletic].
"He’s physically fit but he’s not match fit because he hasn’t played many games... he's got a week’s training behind him. In terms of match minutes, he’s low this year."
Eze was recently recognized for his outstanding performance, with the Professional Footballers' Association naming him to the Team of the Year for 2019-2020.
