Nwakali's Clash With Former Arsenal Teammate Coquelin : Villarreal Issue Injury Update
Published: September 14, 2020
Kelechi Nwakali will be heaving a sign of relief with the latest update issued by Villarreal following the injury suffered by their summer signing Francis Coquelin during the 1-1 draw with SD Huesca in La Liga on Sunday.
Fourteen minutes from time, the Frenchman was stretchered off the pitch after clashing with his former Arsenal teammate Nwakali and it was initially feared that the knee injury he suffered was serious.
Nwakali accidentally stepped on Coquelin's knee as he tried to win the ball off the central midfielder.
The medical report from Villarreal after the game ruled out a serious injury.
"Medical tests carried out on Francis Coquelin after a knee injury which saw him have to be replaced have revealed that he has not suffered any damage to the internal structure of the knee," Villarreal said in a statement.
Nwakali looked genuinely worried after Coquelin fell on the pitch in agony, clutching his left knee.
The ex-Golden Eaglets and Flying Eagles skipper made his first competitive appearance in a top-flight since starting against Heerenveen in an Eredivisie clash in December 2017 while wearing the colours of VVV Venlo.
