'I Played At The World Cup' - Serie B Top Scorer Simy Looking Forward To Super Eagles Recall
Published: September 17, 2020
Simeon Tochukwu Nwankwo is looking forward to earning a recall to the Super Eagles following Crotone's promotion to the top-flight of Italian football.
The lanky forward ended last season as the top scorer in the Serie B with 20 goals to his name in 37 appearances.
He has been in the international wilderness for more than two years with his last appearance coming against Argentina during the 2018 World Cup, and manager Gernot Rohr's decision to snub him coincided with Crotone's demotion to the Serie B.
When asked if he's thinking of the national team, Simy told the official website of Crotone: "Of course, this is every player's dream. I played at the World Cup and now I look forward".
Simy is competing with another Italian-based player in Napoli's Victor Osimhen, Racing Genk duo Cyriel Dessers and Paul Onuachu, Leicester City's Kelechi Iheanacho and Al-Nassr's Ahmed Musa for one of roster spots ahead of the national team's upcoming friendlies against Ivory Coast and Tunisia.
The former Gil Vicente and Portimonense SC man earned his first call-up to the national team after scoring seven goals in the Serie A back in the 2017-18 season.
