Exclusive: Watford Sporting Director Confirms Interest In Super Eagles Assistant Captain
Championship club Watford are interested in signing Super Eagles assistant captain William Troost-Ekong, Sporting Director of the Hornets, Cristiano Giaretta has confirmed.

The Italian talent spotter has acknowledged that Udinese and Watford have an excellent relationship as the two clubs are owned by the Pozzo family, meaning the probability of the transfer happening is high, but stressed that the deal is not yet over the line.

Nigeria internationals Isaac Success and Uche Agbo, and 2019 Africa Cup of Nations top scorer Odion Ighalo were on the books of Udinese before their transfers to Watford.

"We are speaking with him (Troost-Ekong), but there are other choices. He is a target. Watford and Udinese are the same (club,) we will see," Giaretta told allnigeriasoccer.com on Monday morning.

Speaking after the goalless draw against Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday, Watford manager Vladimir Ivic labelled Troost-Ekong a quality player who could bolster the squad.

"I know him as a quality player and he will be one of the players who will help us in the future, if he will come, if he will join us. I cannot speak now because he's still not with us," Ivic was quoted as saying by Watford Observer.

A product of the Tottenham Hotspur Academy, Ekong has three years left to run on his contract with Udinese, whom he joined from Bursaspor after starring at the 2018 World Cup.
