Midtjylland Midfielder Who Idolises Kante Extensively Scouted Before Maiden Eagles Call-Up
Published: September 22, 2020
FC Midtjylland defensive midfielder Frank Onyeka was one of the shock inclusions in the latest Super Eagles squad announced on Monday afternoon.
The FC Ebedei product, who has cited Chelsea star N'Golo Kante as his role model, shone as Midtjylland won the Danish Superliga last term and won the club's Player of the Season accolade.
And he has picked up from where he left off last season, starring as the Danish champions earned back-to-back wins against PFK Ludogorets Razgrad and Young Boys in the UEFA Champions League qualifying rounds.
Super Eagles chief scout Tunde Adelakun has revealed that Onyeka was extensively scouted before receiving his maiden call-up to the senior national team.
"Of course there is no player that will be called upon to play for the Super Eagles that we have not watched, not just once, not twice but extensively over a number of games," Adelakun told allnigeriasoccer.com.
"We have the full statistics of what Frank Onyeka has done just as we have of what every player has done in the course of the last few months leading up to us releasing the list.
"Yes Frank Onyeka, just like many others, has been watched and scouted before we recommended that he should be picked."

Onyeka was in the Dream Team VII's traveling party to Omdurman for an U23 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Sudan last September.
