'Badly Scouted By The Nigerian Federation' - Sonck On Rohr Choosing Dessers Over Onuachu
Retired Belgium international Wesley Sonck has strongly criticized the Nigeria Football Federation and manager Gernot Rohr for their decision to choose Cyriel Dessers over his Racing Genk teammate Paul Onuachu in the latest Nigeria squad list announced on Monday.

Six months ago, it would have been a good public relations move by the Nigerian Federation and Rohr as Dessers was firing on all cylinders at his former club Heracles Almelo, and eventually ended the season as the joint top scorer in the Eredivisie with 15 goals.

Since Dessers moved to Racing Genk, he has been a shadow of himself, so much so that he has not scored from open play in five appearances, with his two goals coming from the spot.

In a reversal of roles, the Belgian-born frontman has lost his place in the starting lineup to the more efficient Onuachu in the last two games played by Genk in the Belgium First Division A.

Sonck believes the Nigerian Federation and their scouting department did not do their homework well before handing Dessers a call-up to the national team.

On Dessers making the Super Eagles squad instead of Onuachu, Sonck said on Extra Time Program : "Badly scouted by the Nigerian Federation."

Onuachu's last appearance for the Super Eagles was against Brazil in an international friendly in October 2019.
