Done Deal : Atalanta's Italian-Nigerian Center Back Okoli Joins SPAL On Loan
Published: September 25, 2020
Caleb Okoli has become the second Nigeria-eligible central defender to join Italian Serie B club SPAL in the ongoing transfer window.
Through a press release published on their official website, SPAL have announced the signing of the 2001-born Atalanta defender on loan for the remainder of the 2020-2021 season.
Earlier this month, SPAL bolstered their youth ranks with the signing of Abdulmalik Justin Owolabi-Belewu, offering the London-born teenager his first professional contract.
Okoli began his career at Vicenza Academy, before transferring to Atalanta, where he has played the last five seasons, winning two league titles with the Primavera team.
The 19-year-old has made the bench five times for the first team of Atalanta, four of them coming last season.
Okoli is provisionally cap-tied to his country of birth, Italy, after featuring in the U19 EURO qualifiers last year, and was invited to an Italy U20 training camp last month.
