Reading Running The Rule Over Released Man Utd Defender Nkwonta Ahead Of Potential Transfer
Published: September 26, 2020
Allnigeriasoccer.com understands that Championship club Reading are running the rule over promising Nigerian defender Joseph Nkwonta ahead of a potential transfer.
The teenager is on the lookout for a new club after he was not offered a scholarship by Manchester United for the 2020-2021 season.
He tried his luck with Tottenham Hotspur but the north London club passed up the opportunity to sign him due to his height.
Nkwonta has been described as a mobile center back who is very strong on the ball, technically good and may have a future playing as a defensive midfielder or right-back in the long term.
Should he impress Reading youth team coaches during his trial period, he is expected to sign a scholarship that will keep him at the Madejski Stadium until at least the summer of 2022.
Reading have in their first-team ranks France U18 star of Nigerian descent Michael Olise, Super Eagles hopeful Ovie Ejaria and Nigeria international Sone Aluko, while Femi Azeez and Joseph Ajose play for the development squad.
