Netherlands Or Nigeria? New Arsenal Signing Likened To Zaha Reveals Who Have Made Contact
Published: October 10, 2020New Arsenal signing from Ajax Amsterdam, Joel Ideho has suggested that the Royal Dutch Football Association (KNVB) are ahead of the Nigeria Football Federation in the race for his services at international level.
The 17-year-old was included in Netherlands U18 provisional squad for two friendlies against France on October 9 and October 11 but couldn't make his debut for the age group as the games were later cancelled by the KNVB in response to the growing coronavirus problem.
Touted as one of the brightest young prospects in the Netherlands prior to his recent move to the Gunners, Ideho has likened himself to Crystal Palace wing-wizard Wilfried Zaha.
Asked if he has been contacted by the Nigerian Federation to play for one of their teams, Ideho answered : "No, I haven't been contacted by the Nigerian Federation yet but I have been by the Netherlands though.
"I don't know yet where my international future lies. I was born in Tilburg in the Netherlands and my parents are both Nigerians".
Watford defender William Troost-Ekong and Benfica loanee Tyronne Ebuehi were born in the Netherlands but are cap-tied to the Super Eagles following their competitive debuts for the three-time African champions.
Ideho arrives at Arsenal with a lot of hype after scoring a world-class goal against FC Midtjylland in the quarterfinals of last season's UEFA Youth League.
