Reading Turn Down Chance To Sign Former Manchester United Defender Nkwonta
Published: October 12, 2020
Allnigeriasoccer.com has been told that Reading will not be signing Nigerian defender Joseph Nkwonta.
Nkwonta recently underwent trials with the Royals youth team but the recruitment team said that he won't be offered a scholarship deal because they are well-stocked in the defensive department.
The promising defender is on the lookout for a new club following his release by Manchester United at the end of the 2019-2020 campaign.
Nkwonta trained with Tottenham Hotspur earlier this year but the north London club passed up the opportunity to sign him.
One of the top prospects produced by the Reading Academy in recent years is the 18-year-old Nigeria-eligible playmaker Michael Olise who has 32 first-team games under his belt and scored his first professional goal against Barnsley last month.
Reading also pay the wages of former Liverpool and Arsenal midfielder Ovie Ejaria, and Nigeria international Sone Aluko.
The Madejski Stadium outfit have had a fine start to 2020-21, winning their opening four games in the Championship to sit second in the table.
