Nigeria Handed Boost In Pursuit Of Babajide After Liverpool POTS Is Left Out Of England Squad
Published: October 14, 2020
Liverpool FC Women's 2019-2020 Player of the Season, Rinsola Babajide will not make her senior debut for England this month, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
The Nigeria Football Federation have been handed a boost in their pursuit of Babajide after she was omitted from the latest Lionesses roster announced by the English Football Association on Tuesday, October 13.
Manager Phil Neville, having run the rule over Babajide at last month's training camp, has opted against naming the Anglo-Nigerian striker in his 28-player group for the friendly against Germany on October 27.
The former Watford and Millwall Lionesses star has previously represented England's U19, U20 and U21 national teams.
It is understood that the Nigerian Federation have tested the waters regarding Babajide switching allegiance to Nigeria but her loyalty lies with England for now.
Meanwhile, the Liverpool number 10 has been nominated for the Women’s Rising Star of the Season at the 2020 Northwest Football Awards.
Babajide faces competition from Natasha Fenton (Blackburn Rovers Ladies), Evie Priestley (Burnley FC Women), Lauren Hemp (Manchester City) and Lauren James (Manchester United Women) in her bid to win the award.
