16-Year-Old Nigeria-Eligible Midfielder In London With Rennes Squad Pre-Chelsea
Published: November 03, 2020
Promising Nigerian youngster Lesley Ugochukwu is once again in contention to make his UEFA Champions League debut for French Ligue 1 club Rennes, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
The 2004-born midfielder was spotted training with Rennes first teamers on Tuesday morning before his inclusion in the traveling party to London.
Rennes coach Julien Stéphan has selected a 23-man group for the game against Chelsea, meaning it is confirmed that Ugochukwu will be in the matchday squad provided that he does not suffer an injury in the pre-match warmup.
He is one of eight players under the age of 20 named in the Rennes squad to face the Premier League side.
The French-Nigerian has made inroads in recent months, making his debut in the UEFA Youth League against Inter Milan in August and was on the bench in last week's defeat to Sevilla in the Champions League.
Rennes are searching for their first win in Group E of the Champions League after drawing 1-1 with Russian side Krasnodar in their opener.
