Young Nigerian Center Back Likened To Van Dijk Making Waves At Charlton Athletic
Published: November 05, 2020
Promising Nigerian center back Deji Elerewe has been hugely impressive with his energetic displays for the youth team of Charlton Athletic since the start of the 2020-2021 season, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
A first year scholar, Elerewe has broken into the Addicks U18 set up in the new campaign.
He was one of the standout performers as Charlton Athletic booked their place in the next round of the FA Youth Cup on Wednesday evening, going the distance and helping goalkeeper James Beadle keep a clean sheet in a 5-0 win against Winslow United.
Standing at 6ft 3in, Elerewe has a commanding presence at the heart of the Charlton Athletic U18 backline.
Another notable aspect of his game is his aerial presence which is not surprising given his height.
The highly-rated central defender is composed and confident on the ball, and can slot in at right back if the need arises.
Elerewe has been likened to Liverpool star Virgil van Dijk due to his similar playing style.
